Technical Sales Manager

About the Role


The Technical Sales Manager will work closely with the Operations team to support the company’s business development and technical activities across the region or as required. The role involves driving sales growth and contributing to the overall business performance. In addition, the Technical Sales Manager will oversee discussions and management of technical specifications and support requirements—such as equipment needs and work scopes—with both customers and internal teams, including operations, logistics, and sales. This ensures the company’s continued growth, development, and technical excellence within the region.

The Technical Sales Manager must be capable of preparing and presenting detailed weekly reports that cover sales results, individual and team activities, pipeline progress, deal stages, and forecasts.

Key Responsibilities
 
  • Conduct in-person techno-commercial meetings with prospective and existing customers across assigned regions, supporting local commercial and operational teams.
  • Organise and participate in face-to-face meetings to build and strengthen customer relationships across multiple territories.
  • Manage the entire sales cycle: receive RFQs, prepare and submit quotations, follow up on proposals, and analyse client requirements and market pricing to secure business.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships through key account management, participating in discussions from project initiation through to final reporting.
  • Evaluate business opportunities in both established and emerging markets in alignment with regional strategies.
  • Respond promptly and accurately to technical and commercial enquiries, preparing high-quality, precise proposals.
  • Support the regional team by proactively identifying and resolving customer concerns.
  • Engage directly with key decision-makers at all levels within potential client organisations.
  • Continuously gather and assess market intelligence regarding competitors’ products, pricing, and promotional strategies to effectively counter market competition.
  • Contribute to marketing initiatives by preparing and sharing materials such as social media posts, case studies, presentations, and other promotional content to uphold a strong brand image.
  • Participate in the annual budgeting process, providing relevant insights and assistance to regional management.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to the team.
  • Coordinate with suppliers to obtain pricing and delivery details.
  • Assist in preparing and issuing accurate parts quotations.
  • Prepare high-quality service quotations, ensuring precision in language, technical and commercial details, legal compliance, and project-specific requirements to enhance client engagement and maximise win rates.
  • Maintain and update proposals and related data within the Company Management System (AMS).
  • Monitor and report on sales performance, targets, orders, margins, and other key performance indicators.
  • Track all enquiries, quotations, and orders in AMS to ensure effective monitoring.
  • Record and maintain all sales opportunities accurately within the Phoenix CRM system.
  • Follow up with clients regarding submitted quotations and ongoing opportunities.
  • Communicate proactively with clients on any potential delays or issues as they arise.
  • Participate in sales visits with management to broaden business knowledge, learn sales strategies, and build new client connections.
  • Liaise with client procurement and purchasing personnel to strengthen professional relationships.
  • Regularly review and enhance the sales process to improve efficiency and outcomes.
  • Identify service gaps and pursue new business opportunities to grow the client portfolio.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating promotional events and marketing initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development and preparation of tender documents and bid submissions.
  • Support departmental and organisational goals by achieving results aligned with the company’s strategic objectives.

Qualifications
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the oil and gas industry.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all organisational levels.
  • Proven track record in selling technical services or equipment such as jacking systems, drilling tools, lifting equipment, or rig maintenance services.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical and rig systems (e.g., cranes, skidding systems, jacking gear, top drives).
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards (API, DNV, ABS, etc.).
  • Ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks effectively, with strong organisational skills.
  • Solid background in technical sales and oilfield technologies.
  • Good understanding of office procedures and business operations within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong time management and planning abilities.
